J.H. Beadle at camp in American Fork Canyon, 1871.
The Silver Mountains of Utah.
To the Hickman family, John Hanson Beadle is best known as the editor or "editor" or author of Bill Hickman's book, Brigham's Destroying Angel. Less known is the fact that he was a prolific writer and promoter of Utah mines and Utah tourism. He was a leader of the anti-Mormon movement (unlike today, the anti-Mormons were almost completely political and it had little to do with religion), the Utah correspondant for the Cincinnati Commercial, and editor of the Salt Lake Reporter, and later the Corinne Reporter. The attached article was written by him and published in Harper's New Monthly Magazine in 1876.
